I still don't believe this, and the reason I don't believe this is that "buy low sell expensive" doesn't work in pre, as there's nothing to sell except dyes, and noone has more than at most a couple of hundred gold to buy for. Yeah, sure you could buy 250 orange for 40 gold and sell them for 60, and that'd buy you one black for 5000... Which you couldn't sell at all. Yeah, gg.
Or at least that was the case up till the exploit was discovered. I suppose not only tons of high-end items flowed in to pre-sear that way, but also tens of millions in gold, so perhaps there's lots of people in pre who can pay a couple of K per black now.

Its easy to get money in pre it just takes time. Over a period of 5 days I got a character to lvl 13 found 2 black dyes and had 7k in gold so it is very possible to make money in pre. You just have to know what to sell and what to keep.

I been watching Noober's character over the last couple of months. I keep a pre-character around to just bash stuff and guide newbies around as a public service. I dabbled in some armor collector trade a bit but really only to do stuff while waiting for the inevitable "can someone hold my hand, cuz I can't find my own butt without help" call.
This is all legit effort on the part of one very bored dye trader. Tkob pre char started showing up in towns offering to buy dye when people declared they had dye to sell. (enough were from newbs that you could often see half the transaction on the open channel.) It's pretty obvious that Tkob bought at about half the selling price noober was using. (give or take on color)
And then after a bit, Tkob started appearing at peak hours in Fort Ranik selling dye at an announced price. Anything but Black. rates never fluctuated. Every time I was on.
That 3k in start up money probably brought in 5-6k that got cycled back into more stock. It wasn't long before people started looking for Tkob when they had dye to sell.
It works for a couple of reasons:
1) lots of new players are very happy to sell dye for 50 gld rather than take up slots or merchant it for 1. (I've personally seen players refuse to take more from me more than once, afraid they are taking advantage of me)
2) lots of players want dye early on and are getting run so they never see drops. (anybody spending time in Pre has seen the people that don't even know how to find certain areas of the map)
3) noober's sale pitch was clear, constant but not annoying. Never picked a fight with other merchants, never got condecending.
4) A player could keep a black dye for post and hope to market it for 7k with a lot of pitching and standing around or they could have 5k from tkob in their pocket and be done with it. (and 5k will get you run to yaks plus armor and a little more)
On a personal note, Ariana Kervil will miss seeing Tkob around in the fort.

In my humble opinion, I say, 'Bravo' to noober for this great achievement. I have to say, you must have a lot of patience to trade for long enough to get all those dyes. Once more, bravo.

I think that's pretty awesome.
I think the people absolutely crying are hilarious. Because you're totally lessened by this. It completely ruined your life to see someone play the game differently and do better at it than you do at your way.

Hey, I know this guy, create a new char and go around see what tkob does, he is a really great person making this kind of money in presearing, he even holds lotterys! Its fun in presearing, btw the way he makes his money is stacking up on dyes by buying em real cheap! well we all know LA D1, lol Buy Low Sell HIGH!

IF you have done this for over 2 months, how is it that your character has headgear on? I thought pre had no headgear up until this latest major update (about 2-3days ago)????? Is there a collector now that happens to give headgear now? Because I was just asking around yesterday morning to see if I could get my lvl 8 N/Me a headgear in pre, and everyone said only new characters made AFTER the 3/9/06 update had the headgear available. If there is a collector, could you point the way, so that I won't have to delete this char just to get headgear on a character in Pre?
Edit: Also, if you could post a /age or /deaths (i think those are the commands to bring up the age and deaths of your character) screenshot along with your bar showing your lvl 10 for us? And if you can a screenshot of the runes you have on your armor? This will help make believers out of us non believers.

sorry to burst your bubble but presearing chracters do have headgear and you can access it in the character generater. even before it was "fixed" i have been playing for 10 months and all of my characters had headgear in pre

118 * 7k = 826,000gp
And her time IS wasted actually. She's a talented trader, and that's why she should've invested her talent and time in huge trades, she'd make at least 5 times that ammount.

I did it to hold a record in Pre-Searing...
Let me give you the low down of WHY I did it. I have a glitch on either my computer or my internet provider is just really.. messed up, so my internet crashes every 1 and a half hours on the dot for about half a second. Now this may not seem like a big problem for casual surfers, but when I'm in a party for a 2 hour mission, I'll get dropped at the 1 and a half hour mark (one the DOT.) Because of that glitch, I forced myself to reside in Pre to help out my guildies with their pre chars (hence the name Tkob Pre Char.) One of my guildies recommended I get a full black set of pre armor, seeing as my char was to never leave pre, so I said sure why not.
I wondered how I was going to go about getting the dyes, so I took the 1k I had on me and bought a few dyes. I sold them for higher and repeated. Then I traded I think 6 blues 6 greens 4 reds and 5 silvers for my first black, I forgot how I got the other two and the last one I found. After leaving guild wars for about 2 weeks, I came back and said, "Hey why not I'll go for a record." So I farmed till I got 3k, then bought and sold dyes. I did that for 2 months and at the end you see what the outcome is. I held lotteries for black dyes, also.. The first winner was Rosie Fletcher with a win of 5 black dyes, the 2 runners up got 1k each and everyone else won 100 gold (no matter what they bought.. so 1 orange dye which I sold them for 75 would have gotten them 100 gold [+25 gold and an orange dye.]) I did this again the next week, only it was 10 black dyes and 5k to each runner up. This is because I had over 750 dyes to sell off, and they all sold withing 4 hours. The top runner up got 3 black dyes for her high contribution.. I just didn't think it was right she didn't win. That's about it.
I decided to go for a record, I surpassed it (the old record was 64 blacks, to the best of my knowledge,) and set a new one. Now if anyone wants to beat me, they have to beat 100k CASH (yes, 100k) and 122 black dyes. I gave the 10 to the winner, Merciless Evilphyre, 3 blacks to the runner up, and bought a few more blacks because I had about a buncha dyes left. After that, I left pre forever. We won 9 to 1

Congrats on this noober.
The people bashing him don't bash someone like ractoh for having like 15 mill xp or more, so back off.. honestly.

Big time..and i don't see why people are disagreeing. I understand he's playing differently, but don't you get it? he did it for attention! He made a bloody thread for pete sake..He did this to get attention, he's not 'original' or 'unique'. He realized he can't do anything in post searing, so he decided to live in his basement, selling/buying dyes.

fyi noober can do a lot of "things" through the money made through those 118 Black Dyes, all in all I believe noober DOES deserve attention for this, after all: who doesn't enjoy being appreciated?
